
No. 11 Cornhuskers Coming to Town

LUBBOCK, Texas - With home court advantage the Red Raider volleyball team will host No. 11 Nebraska tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. This is Tech's second match in a week against a top-25 opponent after it fell 3-1 (33-31, 28-30, 19-30, 20-30) to the No. 24 Missouri Tigers last Saturday.
This match will be big match for not only the team but for junior Kelly Johnson, who with 1,321 career kills needs only 13 kills in tomorrow's match to hold the all-time kill record with 1,334. Johnson has averaged 5.68 kills a game this season. Melissa McGehee, who played on the team from 1999-2002, currently holds the record with 1,333 career kills. For the week of Oct. 20, including the team's first conference win of the season, Johnson earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors. With 69 attempts over Missouri, Johnson now holds the number one spot in career attempts with 3,373.
Helping lead Tech's offensive strike is sophomore Breanna Pursley who holds a team second best 145 kills with 143 digs. Against Missouri she had 17 kills with 7 digs. Senior Angela Mooney played against Missouri for her first time in over eight matches due to knee surgery. Mooney is third on the team with 31 blocks with 188 kills on the season. Junior Laura Grote has 882 assists on the season with team second best 17 service aces. Defensively, junior Jessy Herrera holds a team high 239 digs in the libero position while sophomore Jessica Watson has 39 blocks on the season.
Tomorrow's match denotes Halloween costume night with all fans invited to dress in costume and enter a costume contest at half time. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
