LUBBOCK, Texas - - Texas Tech volleyball announced today the signing of two student athletes who will bring incredible athleticism and depth to the program. Tech signed, Lindsey Louis, a 5'11'' senior from Austin's Westlake, and Desiree Batista, a transfer from Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger, Texas, to next year's squad.
Louis' accolades include 2002 State MVP, Texas Sports Writer's Association Player of the Year in 2002, and two-time outstanding hitter at Pearland. In 2002, along with winning the state championship, Louis was a top 50 volleyball prospect and first team all district.
Louis is a member of the LoneStarVolleyball All-Texas Team and two summers ago she was named All-Tournament in the Open Division at the USA Junior Nationals as a member of Austin Junior's 16 team. Louis has a solid all-around game, and is considered to be one of the state's most dominating hitters.
Brazil native Batista also brings an all-around player as she is solid on all sides of the ball. This 5-10 hitter will serve as an outside and right side hitter. She was two-time Conference MVP as well as a two-time all region and All-American.
Head coach Nancy Todd is excited of the contribution the incoming players will make for the team.
"They are both going to make great contributions to this team. They are not only exceptional athletes but great volleyball players, " commented Todd on the new additions. "They bring experienced backgrounds and good experience to the floor."
The 2003 squad will begin to wind down its season as they head to Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday to take on the No. 5 Kansas State Wildcats.
