
Tech Places Four on Big 12 Freshman Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Four Texas Tech freshmen have been named to The Sporting News Big 12 All-Freshman Team, led by true freshman LB Brock Stratton (San Antonio, Texas), who also garnered Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Stratton, in his first season of competition since his senior year of high school in 2000, is second on the team this season with 83 tackles. He is currently tied seventh nationally with 6.9 tackles per game among the nation's freshman defenders.
True freshman CB Chad Johnson (Shreveport, La.) and redshirt freshman DT Ken Scott (Newton, Texas) also were named to the team. Johnson has 37 tackles this season and two interceptions, including one in his first collegiate game against SMU. Scott has been a starter and backup on the defensive line and has 21 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a sack. He also has two fumble recoveries.
On the offensive side, redshirt freshman WR Jarrett Hicks (Houston, Texas) was honored after catching 31 passes for 485 yards and four touchdowns. The tallest of the Texas Tech receiving corps at 6-foot-4, Hicks is averaging 15.6 yards per reception.
