Lubbock, Texas - The Red Raiders host the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma on Saturday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena as Coach Bob Knight enters his 1,106th game with 801 victories as a collegiate head coach.
Coach Knight enters his second season as head coach of the Raider program. Overall, he owns a career record of 801 wins and 304 losses (.725) and is in his 37th coaching season. He began his career at Army (1965-1971) where his teams were 102-50. In 1971, he moved to Indiana (1971-2000) and garnered three NCAA championships ('76, '81, '87) and an NIT championship in 1979. In twenty-nine seasons his teams won 662 games and lost 239 games.
His first Texas Tech team was 23-9, marking the 33rd time in 36 seasons he has taken his teams to post-season play. Coach Knight's teams have won 20 or more games a total of 25 times. He also has four seasons of winning 30 or more games...including the perfect season (32-0) in the 1975-1976 season.
The series with OU began on December 27, 1944 with a neutral site loss (61-31) for the Raiders. This will be the 31st. meeting between the Raiders and the Sooners. Overall Oklahoma leads the series 18-12. Tech leads in games played in Lubbock 8-5, while OU leads in games played in Norman, 12-4. The Sooners have won the single neutral site game...the All College Tournament in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The last time out, January 20, 2003, the Raiders were down one point at the half (29 - 28). In the second half Texas Tech scored 32 points to OU's 31 points to force the game into overtime. In the overtime period, OU outscored TT by 5 points ... 9 to 4 for a 69 - 64 win in Norman. Hollis Price led all scorers with 23 points as Tech's Kasib Powell followed with 19 points.
Several tickets remain for tomorrow's game. Less than 2,000 tickets remain for the Texas A&M game on February 22. Fewer than 1,000 tickets are available for the UT game on March 1 while less than 2,500 tickets remain for March 3 contest against Kansas.
