The Lady Raider softball team was shut out today by the University of Nevada Las Vegas at the UNLV Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Tech out hit the Rebels four to three but a Rebel homerun in the bottom of the sixth gave UNLV a win.
In her second appearance and first start of the day, Erin Crawford took to the mound for the Lady Raiders. Neither team could capitalize off first inning doubles to score runs in the first as both Tech's Kristi Robles and UNLV's Lisa Moses logged doubles. In the second the team turned a double play, their tenth of the season, with a ground out to shortstop and a batter thrown out at first.
The boards remained at zero for both squads with only Amanda Douglas, Shayne Gipson and Lisa Lawler getting hits after the first. Trying to break out of tie situation, Tech changed up their lineup in the bottom of the fifth. Amie Stines came in to take the place of Crawford, who allowed only one hit in four innings. The Lady Raiders held the Rebels to one hit and no runs in the fifth.
The Rebels were the team to break the tie and they waited until the end. Morgan Bostwick slammed a three-run homerun to establish a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Tech could not gain ground on the Rebels and fell to a 6-10 record.
Tech concludes tournament play tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Cal State-Fullerton.
