Lady Raiders End Regular Season in Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's struggles continued on the final day of the 2003 Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo., as the Lady Raiders finished 12th at the event after scoring rounds of 329, 332 and 317 for a 978 total. Tech will now play the waiting game for a spot in the 63-team NCAA Championships field, which will be announced this weekend.
The event was held at The Country Club of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
Tech's Kim Kolb (Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman) led the Lady Raiders with a 22nd-place finish after shooting 75 on the final day. Kolb finished with a three-round 235, nine shots ahead of Tech's next top finished, Jackie Ey (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill). Ey finished 44th with a 244. Megan Hull (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield) and Sheila Mendez (El Paso, Texas/Franklin) finished 50th and 53rd, respectively, after three round totals of 248 and 261, while Hazel Tan (Sarasota, Fla./Bradenton Academy) finished 59th with a 261.
Oklahoma State claimed its third-consecutive team title, bettering second-round leader Missouri by two strokes on the final day to win the event by one stroke. Nebraska's Sarah Sasse took the medallist honors with a three-stroke victory and a four-over par 220.
The Lady Raiders finished among the top five in four of five events leading up to the Big 12 Championships, including impressive finishes over highly ranked opponents. Although Tech finished 12th in the Big 12 Championships, it remains in contention for one of the NCAA's 63 spots for the 2003 championships.
