Two Named to Big 12 Academic Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Two members of the Texas Tech Red Raider golf team have been named to the 2003 Big 12 Conference Men's Golf All-Academic Team, announced today by the league office.
Trey Pyka (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill) and Brian Smith (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado) were selected to the first team. Pyka is a senior finance major, while Smith is a junior majoring in finance.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations' offices, the men's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 23 first-team members combined with eight on the second team. First team members are those who have maintained a 3.20 grade point average or better, while the second team is those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Texas Tech will next compete in the 2003 Big 12 Conference Championships at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., April 28-29.
