Raiders Host Davidson To Open 2003-2004 Basketball Season

Lubbock, TX - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the Davidson College Wildcats on Tuesday, November 18 at the United Spirit Arena in the opening round of the Pre-season NIT to begin the 2003-2004 season.
The Raiders completed the 2002-2003 season with 22 wins and 13 losses and notched a victory in the consolation game of the NIT in Madison Square Garden.
The Davidson, North Carolina Wildcats finished their 2002-2003 season with an overall record of 17 wins and 9 losses. They stood at 11-5 in the Southern Conference.
The Preseason NIT began in 1985 and is comprised of 16 teams with NCAA rules allowing for only one team from a conference to participate in a given year. The format is similar to the postseason tournament. The first two rounds are held at campus sites and the semifinals and the finals are held at Madison Square Garden during the Thanksgiving weekend.
Two intrastate matchups highlight the opening round of the Preseason NIT.
Yale will visit Connecticut on Nov. 17, and Hofstra will be at Marist the next day in two of the eight first-round games announced Wednesday.
The other games to be played on Nov. 17 are: Georgia State at Utah, Missouri-Kansas City at Minnesota and Vermont at Nevada.
The other first-round games on Nov. 18 are: St. Francis, N.Y. at Massachusetts and Louisiana-Lafayette at Georgia Tech.
The second round of the 19th Preseason NIT will be played from Nov. 19-21 with those winners advancing to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 26.
The championship game will be Nov. 28.
North Carolina beat Stanford 74-57 in last year's championship game, while Florida beat Kansas 83-73 for third place.
The complete Red Raider non-conference and conference schedule will be finalized and released later in the summer.
