Women's Golf Opens Season at Dick McGuire Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golf heads to Albuquerque, N.M., today for the Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 25-27. Tech finished 15th last year with a score of 957 with Kim Kolb placing a team best 26th.
Tech's roster will see three new additions this year. Dallas native Leslie Walls joins the squad after being named All-District, All-Region and All-State all four years at Highland Park High School. Christina Kovalcik of New Braunfels, Texas, won district both her freshman and senior year, with 10 wins in her career. From Boston, Mass., is Deirdre Hatfield, who was a two-time McDonald athlete of the month.
Tech will be led this season by juniors Megan Hull and Kim Kolb who both finished the season last year with a 78.3 stroke average. Kolb claimed three top 20 places with Hull notching five top 20 finishes. Senior Stephanie Dukes will hit the links after sitting out last season with a medical redshirt.
Dukes, Hull, Kolb, Sheila Mendez and Wall will compete for Tech at the tourney with Kovalcik playing as an individual. The 17 team field includes: #21 Arizona State, Baylor, Brigham Young, Colorado State, Hawaii, No. 18 New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Pepperdine, San Diego State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, No. 23 Tulsa, UNLV, UTEP and Wyoming.
Tee times will be from 8:30-11 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 8-10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The team will play on the par-73, 6,069 yard UNM Championship Course. Live results will be available at www.golfstat.com.
