LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team is set to hit the road for Big 12 play against Nebraska and Colorado. Kick-off against the Cornhuskers is slated for Fri., Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. Tech will then head to Boulder, Colo., to battle the Buffaloes, Sun., Oct. 17, at 11:30 a.m.
Texas Tech soccer is coming off a 0-2 weekend of Big 12 action at R.P. Fuller Stadium. Tech was defeated by the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 4-2, after freshman Ashley Reed ended Tech's 270-minutes of scoreless play with her second goal of the season in the first 30 seconds of play. Freshman Jenifer Thomas had the assist on the Reed goal. Reed and Thomas connected again in the sixth minute of play when Reed passed to Thomas who then ran through two defenders and fired a shot past the Oklahoma State keeper.
Tech then dropped a 2-1 decision to Oklahoma, still fighting for that elusive first conference victory. The Sooners led 2-1 at the half and never relinquished their lead. Sophomore Jenna Wetzel, who put Tech on the board with her first goal of the season, scored off a direct kick in the 83rd minute of play.
The Red Raiders have never defeated the Cornhuskers in Big 12 play as Nebraska currently leads the series with Tech, 10-0. The Cornhuskers have also never given up more then one goal to Tech. At the last meeting between the two teams, Nebraska defeated Tech, in Lubbock, 3-1.
The Buffaloes lead the series with Tech, 6-1-1, with Tech's only victory coming during the 1996 season. The Buffaloes have never given up more then two goals to the Red Raiders. At the last meeting between the two teams, Colorado defeated Tech, 5-1, in Lubbock.
