
Women's Golf Hits The Greens Again at NMSU Intercollegiate

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team will head to the NMSU/ Prices "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. this Mon., Oct.4, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. The 54-hole event will be played over two days, with 36-holes opening the event on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The Lady Raiders are coming off a seventh-place finish at their home event at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational on The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. Freshman Valerie Tan led the Red Raiders with a sixth-place finish behind a 148 two-round score. Following Tan was senior Sheila Mendez who finished in 21st-place tabbing a 152 two-day score.
Also representing the Red and Black in this Monday's event are sophomore Marla Troester and seniors Megan Hull and Kim Kolb. Troester, thus far for the Lady Raiders, is averaging a 75.00 stroke-average over four rounds of play. Hull is coming off 154 two-round score, posting a 36th-place finish while Kolb rounded out Tech's competitors carding a 47th-place finish, 155 tournament score.
The field, which consists of 19 teams, includes host New Mexico State, Arkansas-Little Rock, North Texas and the University of Denver. Arizona State, Baylor, Kansas State, Kansas, Hawaii, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, North Dakota State, Nebraska, San Diego State, Texas Christian University, Western New Mexico and Northern Arizona will also be in attendance.
This will be the first time for the Lady Raiders to participate in NMSU's annual event, which the University of Oklahoma won in 2003. Oklahoma will not be in attendance this year leaving the field open for a new tournament champion.
The Lady Raiders are set for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Mon., Oct. 4. The New Mexico State Golf Course (1,169-yards, par 72) will feature 36-holes on Monday, with the remaining 18-holes to be played out on Tues., Oct.5.
