
Volleyball Notches Four to Academic All-Big 12 Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Seniors Daneen Grisham, Laura Grote, Kelly Johnson and sophomore Kiley Lyons all warranted selections for the 2004 Volleyball Academic All-Big 12 Team, announced the conference office today. Grisham, Grote and Johnson earned first team selections, while Lyons took second-team honors.
Tech's Grote and Johnson are making their third-straight appearances on the first team, while this is Grisham's second-straight time to be honored with the feat. Each senior has maintained credentials enough to be selected for nothing less than first team in each of their respective years.
Grote, a native of Austin, Texas, is pursuing a degree in Publics Relations and is set to graduate this year. Grote maintains a 3.631 GPA to garner her selection while Johnson posts a 3.570 to join her senior teammate. The Fort Worth, Texas, native is pursuing a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and is set to graduate in May.
Grisham grabs her selection with a 3.304 GPA, as this Wimberley, Texas, native rounds out the first team selections for the Red and Black. Grisham is set to graduate in May with a degree in Psychology. Representing the only member for Tech on the second team, and last Red Raider player honored on the list, is Lyons with a 3.115. Lyons is a native of Amarillo, Texas, and is currently studying for a degree in the College of Business Administration.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league squad consisted of 37 first team members combined with 15 on the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in each of the two previous semesters while participating in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
