Tech Softball Defeats Saint Louis in Tulsa Tournament

TULSA, Okla. - Junior pitcher Keely Tucker scattered seven hits and allowed only one earned run while striking out five and walking none, as Texas Tech softball defeated Saint Louis 2-1 at the 2004 Holiday Inn-Select Tulsa Festival.
Saint Louis was able to gain an early advantage in the top of the third inning. During the frame, the Billikens got a leadoff double by Melissa Quest, who was followed by center fielder Adrienne May who also doubled. During the play, Quest was gunned down at home on a throw by left fielder Kelly Rhyne and a relay by shortstop Heather Parker. The next batter doubled to drive in May and give Saint Louis a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Raiders (5-14) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score at 1-1. Rhyne led off the inning with a sharp double to left center field and was followed by Brandy Moulin who walked and Britney Stolle who reached on an error. With the bases loaded and no outs, Heather Parker singled through the right side to plate Rhyne and tie the game. The Billikens avoided the big inning but retiring Ashleigh Renfro on a fly out to right field and throwing out Moulin who was trying to score from third. With two outs Natalie Kula grounded out to third base to end the inning and send the game to the fifth at 1-1.
Elyssa Sigala broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth when she blasted her second home run of the season to left center field. Sigala hit her first home run of the season in Tech's morning game against UAB.
Tucker pitched all seven innings for her third complete game of the season and got the win to move her record to 3-4 on the year.
Texas Tech softball will be back in action tomorrow at the Holiday Inn-Select Tulsa Festival when they take on Drake at 11 a.m. and tournament host Tulsa at 5 p.m.
