LUBBOCK, Texas - Madison Edwards went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Juan Razo pitched six stellar innings of relief to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 9-4 win over the Campbell Camels on Saturday afternoon. The win gives Texas Tech the three-game sweep as Tech took game-one 18-1 and game-two 19-4.
Campbell came storming out of the gates early as they took a lead for the first time in the series by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Camels roughed up Tech starter Steve Gooch who surrendered three runs on five hits in the inning.
Texas Tech came storming back in its half of the inning as the Red Raiders pounded out six runs on six hits and took advantage of one Campbell fielding error. Junior shortstop Cameron Blair led off the inning with a single to center and junior second baseman Jose Delgado followed with a bunt single to give Tech runners at first and second. Junior first baseman Josh Brady plated the first two runs of the game with a base clearing double to left field. Brady later scored as part of a double steal. Tech got RBI singles later in the inning from junior center fielder Cody Fuller and junior catcher Cooper Fouts.
Campbell scored what turned out to be its final run of the game in the second inning when Joe Anthonsen hit a two-out solo home run over the right field wall.
Texas Tech added two more runs in the third thanks to a two-run home run from junior Madison Edwards. Edwards' two run blast over the right field wall was his third home run in three days.
The game became a pitcher's dual over the next four innings before Tech answered with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cameron Blair hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Madison Edwards who led off the frame with a single to left field.
Juan Razo (1-0) earned the win for Texas Tech as he replaced Steve Gooch in the third inning and pitched the next six frames allowing just one hit while striking out three. Joey Babyak (0-1) threw a complete game for the Camels but suffered the loss as he gave up 11 hits and nine earned runs. Babyak threw 139 pitches in the game.
