TEXAS TECH NOTES
Today's win gives Head Coach Bobby Knight his 831st victory, moving him into 3rd place on the all-time career victories list (1. Dean Smith-879; 2. Adolph Rupp-876; 4. Jim Phelan, 830).
Ronald Ross scored a career high 25 points. His 16 attempts are a career high and his 10 field goals tie a career high. Ross has scored in double figures in four consecutive games after going scoreless against Nebraska, February 24th. Ross is averaging 18.5 in the last four games. His season average is 10.0.
Mikey Marshall scored a career high 23 points, nearly 19 above his season average (4.3 ppg.). Prior to today, he had scored a total of 24 points over his previous nine games.
- It is only the fourth time this season Marshall has reached double figures. In these games, Marshal is 23 of 28, .821.
- Today, Marshall had career highs in field goals (8), attempts (9), tied a career high in 3-point field goals made (4) and rebounds (7).
- He didn't miss a shot until 11:00 in the second half (7-8, 4-5 at that point).
The Red Raiders reach the Big 12 Tournament semifinals for the 3rd consecutive year. Prior to making the 2002 semifinals, they sported a 1-5 record in the tournament but are 5-2 since. They have never played in the Big 12 Tournament championship game.
Texas Tech outscored Colorado in the paint, 40-24.
Tech set a tournament record for 3-point field goal percentage, shooting a season best .857 from behind the arc (6-7). The previous record was held by Missouri (.737, 14-19, vs. Texas A&M in 2001). The Red Raiders made 10 of 14 three-point attempts in last year's quarterfinal tournament win over Texas.
The 11 three-point field goals made by Colorado are the most this season against the Red Raiders (previous was 10 by New Mexico, 12.6.03)
Andre Emmett played 40 minutes for the third game in a row. With 13 points today, Emmitt has scored in double figures in 28 of Tech's 31 games this season.
COLORADO GAME NOTES
Colorado connected of 11 three-point goals, marking the fifth time this season the Buffs have connected on 10 or more treys. CU had shot 50 percent or better from beyond the arc in four times entering today's game, including a season-best 12-of-29 (.600) effort at Iowa State March 4. Colorado averaged 10.3 three-pointers made in its last three games. Twelve of CU's first 18 points and 21 (7-of-12 three-point shooting) of CU's 34 first-half points were on three-point goals.
Colorado shot 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the field in the first half, but made only four of its 11 shots (.364) in the first 6:48 of the second half. The Red Raiders were 7-of-12 (.583) from the field during the same time span, jumping to a 52-44 lead.
CU had two one-point leads in the second half. Blair Wilson fourth (and final) three-pointer of the game gave CU a 41-40 lead at the 16:20 mark. The Buffs went ahead 41-40 on Michel Morandais' putback at the 16:20 mark. However, Tech answered with a 19-8 run during the next 8:05 and took a 59-49 lead on Ronald Ross' layup with 8:15 left in the game. CU was 3-of-10 from the field and 2-of-6 at the line during that span of 8:05.
CU was 4-of-13 (.308) from the free-throw line, which was a season-low for free-throws made and free-throw percentage for the Buffs. It ties the Buffs' season-low for free-throw attempts. Colorado was 1-of-4 from the line in the first half and 3-of-9 in the second half.
Texas Tech outrebounded the Buffs, 44-31. Coming into today's game, Colorado had outrebounded its last five straight opponents since Feb. 18, 2004, when the Red Raiders outrebounded the Buffs 36-35. CU owned a 201-157 (40.2-31.4) rebounding advantage in its last five games.
Blair Wilson made his first three three-pointers of the game, including two straight at the 16:23 and 15:51 mark in the first half. However, he was 1-of-5 the remainder of the game from beyond the arc. Wilson's 13 first-half points were more than he scored in his last two entire games (10 vs. Nebraska in 32 minutes; 11 at Iowa State in 36 minutes.) Wilson was 2-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-6 from three-point range, in his last game.
With his 10 points today, Glean Eddy scored in double figures for the fifth time this season and the sixth time during his 60-game career. His two three-pointers made ties his career high, which he has set four times. Eddy has made five of his last nine three-point attempts dating back three games.
Marcus Hall's 14 points was the second-highest point total for the freshman this season, and the most since he recorded a career-high 22 vs. California Dec. 6, 2003. He scored in double figures for the fourth time during his career.
David Harrison's five rebounds were the fewest for the Buff center since he had two at Kansas Jan. 25, 2004. His eight points marks only the fourth time this season he's been held to single-digit scoring. (7 at Nebraska; 5 at Kansas; 8 at Missouri).
David Harrison was one block shy (6) of his career-high seven blocked shots, which he set Feb. 18, 2004 vs. Texas Tech. Harrison blocked 13 Red Raider shots this season. Harrison also had six blocked shots at Pepperdine, Nov. 24, 2003.
Chris Copeland has made four of his last six three-point goals spanning the last three games, including 2-of-2 in his last two games.
