LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech softball rallied from three runs down in the bottom of the seventh to send game two of a Wednesday's doubleheader to extra innings before falling to Oklahoma State 8-7 at Rocky Johnson Field.
As in the first game, Oklahoma State (24-21; 4-5 Big 12) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the early innings. After going in order in the first, the Cowgirls had their lead off hitter of the second inning reach on an error. They took the lead two batters later on a single.
The Cowgirls took total control of the game in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs and chasing Tech starter Julie Hauck who had limited the Cowgirls to only two hits prior to the inning.
Eylssa Sigala got Tech (19-26; 1-7 Big 12) on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, as she slammed her ninth home run of the season over the wall in right field to cut the OSU lead to 4-1.
Tech would not go quietly in the seventh inning. The Lady Raiders came to the plate trailing 4-1 and plated three runs to even the score. Heather Parker lead off the inning with a walk and sister Ashley Parker reached base on a hit to give the team runners on first and second. Pinch hitter Andrea Joachims drew the inning's second walk to load the bases for Elyssa Sigala who hit a two-run double to left center to cut the lead to 4-3. Kelly Rhyne re-entered the game and drew an intentional walk to again load the bases. After a Natalie Enderlin strikeout for the first out of the inning, freshman Brandy Moulin drew an RBI walk to tie the game at 4-4.
The next two batters, however, could not continue the inning, sending the game to extra innings where Tech ran into trouble. After a pair of walks and a single off Tech reliever Keely Tucker (6-8) loaded the bases, Tucker was replaced by Erin Crawford who struck out the next batter for the first out of the inning. The next batter Stephanie Nicholson cleared the bases with her second home run of the season to give the Cowgirls an 8-4 lead.
In the bottom of the eight, Tech was able to load the bases but could only push across three runs to fall one short, 8-7.
Lady Raider softball is back in action tomorrow when they host Texas in a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field with game one starting at 5 p.m.
