Jackie Ey leads All Tech Golfers At Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 45 Lady Raider golf team shot a solid 306 in the second round of the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, to finish the day in seventh. The team enters the final round of the championships with three Lady Raiders in the top 25 and a chance to have one of their highest finishes since their third-place finish in 1999.
Senior Jackie Ey (77-73) leads all Tech golfers with a two-round score of 150, shooting six-over-par, tied for 11th. Ey's 73 second-round score helped her jump from a tie for 28th to a chance to finish in the top 10. Tied for 16th is junior Megan Hull (76-76), shooting eight-over-par for the tournament. Hull made her dash for a top 10 finish with a 76 second-round score that moved her up from a 21st-place finish in the first round. Kim Kolb (78-76), junior, carded a 10-over-par total thus far, and finished the day in a tie for 25th. Rounding out the last of the Lady Raiders are sophomore Hazel Tan (75-82) and Sheila Mendez (78-80) who sit in a tie for 36th and 41st, respectively. Tan has totaled for the tournament a 13-over-par outing, while Mendez finished the second round of play shooting 14-over-par.
Annie Thurman (137) of Oklahoma State continued to hold on to her lead of the individual field, widening the gap between her and the rest of the field with a seven-stroke lead. Thurman remains the only golfer of the championships that has shot under-par. Thurman's closest competitors are Janice Olvancia (144) and Perry Swenson (145) of Texas, who sit in second and third respectively.
No. 15 Texas leads all competitors entering the final round of play in first, followed by No. 35 Texas A&M (second), No. 8 Oklahoma State (third), No. 17 Oklahoma (fourth) and No. 39 Baylor (fifth).
The final round of the Big 12 Championships at Pebble Creek Country Club (6,242 yards, par 72) will get underway with an 8:00 a.m. start Sunday.
