LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 47th-ranked Lady Raider golf team will head to Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., for this year's 2004 NCAA Regionals West Region. The last time the Lady Raiders made it to the NCAA Regionals was under Totman's first year at Tech in 2000-01.
The Lady Raiders ended their pre-conference schedule with back-to-back-to-back top five finishes, their highest a pair of third-place finishes at both the St.Croix Invitational and the Baylor/Tapatio Springs Shootout.
The Lady Raiders are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Big 12 Championships, their best since 1999-00 when the team finished sixth.
"We are just really excited for the opportunity to get back to regionals," said Totman. " We are glad that we are getting to go back to Stanford, a course we have already played at and experienced."
Representing the Lady Raiders at this years regionals will be senior Jackie Ey, juniors Megan Hull, Kim Kolb, Sheila Mendez and sophomore Hazel Tan. Tech's stroke-average leaders are Mendez and Ey who boast Tech's lowest stroke-averages of 77.07 and 77.31, respectively. Hull posts a 77.55 stroke average followed by Kolb (77.96) and Tan (79.56) who round out the top five.
The Lady Raiders will have their hands full with 15-teams out of the 20-team field ranked in the top 50. Leading the pack is No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 California, No. 7 Georgia, No. 12 Washington and No. 15 Texas.
Totman knows that this year's regionals will be tough, but her team has worked hard for it all year long.
"I'm very proud of the team's hard work," said Totman. " They have wanted this for so long and finally have the chance to prove themselves and try to move on to the next round."
The Lady Raiders will begin competition early morning Thurs., May 6, at the Stanford University Golf Course (Par 72, Yardage TBA). The 54-hole event will conclude on Sat., May 8.
