Texas Tech vs. Kansas - Game Three
Sunday, May 2, 2004
Postgame Notes
- The doubleheader sweep of Kansas gave Texas Tech its first Big 12 road series sweep since the 1999 season when Tech dropped Oklahoma in three games in Norman. The sweep was just the third of the season for Texas Tech as Tech took all three from Campbell in the season opener and then against Kansas State two weeks ago.
- The series win over Kansas gave Texas Tech four straight in the Big 12 marking the first time Tech has won four in a row since the 2000 season when Tech beat Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas and Kansas consecutively.
- Texas Tech maintained it's standing of fourth place in the Big 12 but moved to just one game behind league leader Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders have played three less games than Texas and Oklahoma and Tech can catch some ground on the Sooners in the upcoming weekend as they will be off due to final exams.
- The doubleheader win gives Texas Tech a perfect 11-0 record on Sunday's.
- Josh Brady hit three home runs on the day and he is now tied with Kansas' Travis Metcalf for the Big 12 lead with 16. Brady finished the weekend with a batting average of .467 with three home runs, one double and 10 RBI.
- Junior Cameron Blair capped off what has been a stellar week for him offensively as he went 5-for-10 on the day with six RBI. In the three-game series against Kansas, he hit .533 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. For the week (including the Tuesday game with New Mexico) he hit .526 (10-for-19) with three doubles, three home runs (including a grand slam) and had 12 RBI.
- Dallas Braden picked up his third-straight win in the first game of the doubleheader and moved to 4-3 on the year. Corey Gerstner (5-0) got his fifth win of the season in the second game as he pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief.
- Junior catcher Cooper Fouts hit .667 in the series as he was 6-for-9 with five RBI.
- Tech's 66 home runs this season ranks this 2004 squad in 10th place on the all-time single season home run list. The 2004 Red Raiders squeezed out the 2002 squad who had 65. Texas Tech now leads the Big 12 by five.
- Texas Tech is now 20-7 all-time against the Jayhawks and holds an 18-6 advantage in Big 12 play.
- Tech recorded its 11th-straight 30-win season and have surpassed last year's entire win total as Tech went just 30-25 in 2003.
