LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior first baseman Josh Brady hit his first career grand slam to help lead No. 25 Texas Tech to a 12-6 win and series sweep of the Baylor Bears on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
The win gives Texas Tech (38-17) sole possession of third place in the Big 12 as the Red Raiders finish the regular-season with a 17-9 record. The series sweep of Baylor is Tech's third straight over the Bears in Lubbock as Baylor has not won here since March 22, 1998.
Baylor (27-29) jumped out to the early lead as the Bears scored single runs in the top of the first and second innings. Reid Brees scored the first run of the game when he hit a solo home run over the left field wall.
Texas Tech junior first baseman Josh Brady gave Tech the lead for good in the bottom of the second when he delivered a grand slam home run that landed just over the wall in left-center. The grand slam was his first of the season and the sixth by the Red Raiders this year.
The Red Raiders got a two-run homer by Cameron Blair (his 14th of the year) in the fourth and scored a single run in the fifth to go up 7-2. Texas Tech scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and the biggest blow came from Cody Fuller who laced a bases loaded double down the right field line.
Baylor scored three runs in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Josh Ford (who hit for the cycle in the game) along with a sacrifice RBI by Chase Gerdes and a RBI single by Brees.
Junior reliever Juan Razo earned the win in relief for Texas Tech and improved to 3-3 on the year while Baylor's Mark McCormick fell to 2-4.
Texas Tech returns to action on Wednesday morning as the Red Raiders will take on these same Baylor Bears at 10 a.m. in the Big 12 Conference Tournament at Ameriquest Field in Arlington. For tickets to the tournament, please call the Texas Rangers at (817) 273-5100.
