Women's Cross Country Wins the Lobo Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. - The 2004 Texas Tech cross country season opened this morning as the Red Raider squads competed at the Lobo Invite at the University of New Mexico. The women's squad finished first in 6K with 26 points and the men's squad placed fifth in the 8K with 160 points.
The women were led by sophomore Irene Kimaiyo who placed first overall with her time of 22:01. Senior Bridget Tidwell earned a second-place finish overall with her time 22:10. Junior Abby Schubert clocked a time of 22:38, ranking her third on the team and sixth overall. Senior Brionne Yosten finished seventh with a time of 22:43 and fourth on the team. Junior Stefanie Calhoun ranked fifth on the team and 10th overall with her time of 23:10. The women's squad had five runners in the top 10.
Junior Benson Cheserek, who placed fifth overall, clocking a time of 25:35, led the men's squad. Senior Rob Kalescky ranked second on the team with a time of 27:19, finishing 26th overall. Senior Adam Lawless clocked a time of 28:07, ranking him third on the team and 39th overall. Freshman Jake Vernon ranked fourth on the team and 41st overall with his time of 28:15. Freshman Justin Kutch clocked a time of 28:40, good for a 49th-place finish and fifth on the team.
Tech harriers return the course Sat., Sept. 25, in Minneapolis, Minn., at the Roy Griak Invitational, held on the campus of the University of Minnesota. For complete results of the Roy Griak Invite and Texas Tech cross country, visit www.texastech.com.
