LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team heads to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 26th-Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Golf Course. The team will begin competition Sept. 13, and will play three days, 18 holes a day, before the tournament champion will be crowned.
This is the Lady Raider's first tournament of the season, beginning a tough schedule that will involve three tournaments in a one-month period. Tech returns six letterwinners from last year's NCAA Regional Qualifying team, losing only one senior to graduation.
Head Coach Stacey Totman will be looking for her three seniors, Sheila Mendez, Megan Hull and Kim Kolb to lead the squad this year, as the Lady Raiders will seek to move into the NCAA Regional for the second-consecutive year.
Tech will begin its quest for the post season as it looks to start with a solid performance tomorrow at the Dick McGuire Invitational, making its second appearance in three years at the McGuire after skipping 2003. The best finish for the Lady Raiders at this event was 10th out of 18 in 2002.
Tech will be looking at a tough 17-team field, including No.6 New Mexico, No.7 Georgia, and No.9 Oklahoma State. All rankings reflect the poll at the end of last year, as new rankings have yet to be formed.
The team will begin competition at the UNM Championship Golf Course (Par 73, 6,069 yards) Sept. 13 with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running to 11:00 a.m. Livestats can be found at www.GolfStat.com as well as on the UNM website at www.GoLobos.com.
