Lady Raider Golf Sits In 15th After Day One

LUBBOCK, Texas - After starting the competition off with a 17-over-par first-round, the Texas Tech women's golf team sits in 15th-place overall at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Freshman Valerie Tan leads all Lady Raiders going into the second day of competition, shooting a two-over-par, 75.
Tan will begin day two in a tie for 28th-place while teammate Kim Kolb, after a four-over-par, 77 first-day performance, sits as Tech's second-best finisher in a tie for 51st. Tech junior Ashley Slavich and senior Megan Hull finished day one at the invitational in a tie for 59th- and 67th-place, respectively. Slavich shot a 78, five-over-par first round while Hull turned in a 79, six-over-par performance. Senior Sheila Mendez rounds out the last of Tech's point-scoring competitors in a tie for 67th-place, recording a six-over-par, 79.
Tech freshman Marla Troester is competing at the invitational as an individual shooting a five-over-par, 78. Troester enters day two in a tie for 59th.
The team will continue competition at the UNM Championship Golf Course (Par 73, 6,069 yards) today with tee times beginning at 9:20 a.m. and running until 11:00 a.m. Livestats can be found at www.GolfStat.com as well as on the UNM website at www.GoLobos.com.
