Lady Raider Golf Wraps Up Dick McGuire In 12th

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., in 12th place. The Lady Raiders started out in 15th after the first round and continued to move up the ranks to finish two spots out of and 18 strokes behind the top ten.
Senior Megan Hull and freshman Valerie Tan were Tech's top finishers in the team's top 15 finish. Hull ended the tournament with a one-under-par third-round score to move her from tied for 66th, to finish tied for 44th-place with a three-round score of 230. Tan shot a three-over-par third round to finish the three-day competition 11-over-par, 230. Sophomore Ashley Slavich finished tied for 54th with a three-over-par third-round outing, carding a 14-over-par 233 performance. Rounding out the last of the Red Raiders were seniors Sheila Mendez and Kim Kolb. Mendez posted a three-day score of 237 to finish 18-over-par, in a 70th-place tie. Kolb shot a third round 81 to finish the invitational in a tie for 74th-place, at 238, 19-over-par.
Competing as an individual, freshman Marla Troester held onto to her top 25 standing from the second round to finish 22nd overall. After starting out five-over-par after day one, Troester carded a one-under second round and a three-over third round to finish at 225, seven-over-par for the tournament.
No.7 Georgia took home the tournament title, just edging out host No.6 New Mexico (Second). Rounding out the top five were No.26 Pepperdine (Third), No.52 BYU (Fourth) and No.31 Arkansas (Fifth).
The team will return to the greens at their home event at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational Sept. 24-26. The Red Raiders will look to compete against the nations best at the first collegiate tournament to be hosted at the Rawls Course since it opened in 2003.
