Red Raiders on the Road to Austin

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders meet the University of Texas Longhorns at the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The tip-off will be at 8:00 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPN-Regional. Dave Armstrong will call the play-by-play. Reid Gettys will provide the color analysis. John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and Andy Hipsher will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders earned their third conference victory of the season with a 78-62 win over the Missouri Tigers on Wednesday in Columbia. The win upped the Raider record to 11-4 for the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Ronald Ross led all scorers with 22 points. Jarrius Jackson and Devonne Giles each chipped in 17 points for Raiders. Martin Zeno added 16 points. The Raiders held a six point lead (40-34) at halftime.
Texas Tech shot 51.7 percent from the field on 30-of-58 shots, including 1-of-5 attempts from beyond the three-point line. The Raiders sank 17-of-21 free throw attempts (81.0%).
The Red Raiders have five players who are averaging in double-figures for the season. Ronald Ross leads the squad with 15.5 points per game. Jarrius Jackson follows with 13.7 points per game. Martin Zeno averages 13.0 points per game. Devonne Giles is next with 12.1 points per game. Curtis Marshall rounds out the group with 10.3 points per game. The Raiders are averaging 82.5 points per game and are allowing their opponents 65.0 points per game.
With 843 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,170 game with the match-up against Texas. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads everyone with 879 career wins.
The Longhorns are 14-4 for the season. They completed their non-conference season with eleven wins and two losses. Their non-conference losses were to Iowa and Wake Forest. They have three wins and two losses in conference play heading into their match-up with the Red Raiders on Tuesday. The Longhorns opened the conference season with a win over Baylor (79-60) before dropping a road game to Texas A&M (74-63). Next they topped Nebraska in Lincoln (63-53) and beat Oklahoma State on the road Saturday by four points (64-60).
Daniel Gibson leads his team in scoring with 13.2 points per game. Brad Buckman follows with 11.1 points per game. Kenny Taylor adds 10.6 points per game and Jason Klotz averages 10.2 points per game. The Longhorns average 81.6 points per game and have held their opponents to 66.7 points per game.
Overall, Texas leads the series 61-51. Texas Tech leads the series 27-20 when the teams have played in Lubbock. Texas holds a 35-21 edge when the teams have meet in Austin and they have 6-3 margin when the teams have met on neutral courts. Last season, Texas won both meetings by a total of four points. The Longhorns won in Lubbock 62-61 in overtime and in Austin 74-71.
