Red Raider Basketball Set to Host Nebraska

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders have their tenth home game of the season and their sixth conference game on Saturday as they host the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers in the United Spirit Arena. The tip-off will be at 12:45 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPN-Regional. Bill Doleman will call the play-by-play. Paul Splittorff will provide the color analysis. John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders were topped by Texas, 80-73 in Austin on Tuesday to bring the Red Raider conference record to three wins and two losses. Overall, Texas Tech is 11-5 for the season.
Ronald Ross led all scorers with 29 points. Twenty-four of those points came in the second half as the Raiders were trying to erase a seven-point halftime deficit. Devonne Giles added 17 points and 15 rebounds for Raiders. Jarrius Jackson scored 12 points and Martin Zeno added 10 points. The Longhorns were led by Daniel Gibson's 20 points. Kenton Paulino scored 11 points and Jason Klotz added 12 points.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders shot 53.6% in the second half and 36.8% for the game after going 10-for-40 in the first half (25%). The Raiders out-rebounded the Longhorns by a 45-33 margin. The Raiders sank 15-of-20 free throw attempts (75.0%). Texas shot 50.0 percent for game (27-of-54) and they were 14-of-21 from beyond the arc (66.7%). The Longhorns made 12-of-20 free throw attempts (60.0%).
The Red Raiders have four players who are averaging in double-figures for the season. Ronald Ross leads the squad with 16.4 points per game. Jarrius Jackson follows with 13.6 points per game. Martin Zeno averages 12.8 points per game. Devonne Giles is next with 12.4 points per game. The Raiders are averaging 81.9 points per game and are allowing their opponents 65.9 points per game.
With 843 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,171 game with the game against Nebraska. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads everyone with 879 career wins.
The Cornhuskers are 9-7 for the season. They completed their non-conference season with six wins and four losses. Their non-conference losses were to UAB, Minnesota, Creighton, and Marquette. They have three wins and three losses in conference play heading into their match-up with the Red Raiders on Saturday. The Huskers opened the conference season wins over KSU in double-overtime and at Colorado before dropping their next three games to Texas, at Kansas, and at Missouri. They topped Texas A&M, 77-67 on January 26 as Jake Muhleisen led all scorers with 25 points.
Joe McCray leads his team in scoring with 14.8 points per game. Marcus Neal follows with 10.4 points per game. The Cornhuskers average 68.4 points per game and have held their opponents to 60.6 points per game.
Overall, Nebraska leads the series 12-7. The Cornhuskers won the first meeting, in overtime, 69-63 on December 9, 1955. The Red Raiders hold a one game margin (5-4) when the teams have played in Lubbock. The Huskers have a 7-2 lead when the teams have played in Lincoln and a 1-0 edge on neutral courts.
The Cornhuskers won the last outing, 72-44 in Lincoln. They led by eight points at halftime; 34-26, and outscored the Raiders in the second half 38-18 on February 24, 2004. Jarrius Jackson was the leading scorer for the Red Raiders with 10 points.
On February 5, 2003, the Red Raiders downed the Cornhuskers in Lubbock by 26 points (75-49) to give Coach Bob Knight his 800th career victory.
