Filani Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior WR Joel Filani (Phoenix, Ariz.) hauled in SBC Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after catching 11 passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns in Tech's 34-31 win at Nebraska last Saturday.
Tech QB Cody Hodges found Filani crossing right to left in the end zone on fourth down with 12 seconds to play in the game for the game-winning score and Filani's third scoring catch of the game. The three touchdown receptions was the most in a game for one receiver since Nehemiah Glover caught three in Tech's win over Texas A&M in 2003. Additionally, eight of Filani's 11 receptions went for first downs.
Filani is second on the team with 27 receptions and 403 yards. He is averaging 14.9 yards per catch and leads the Big 12 Conference with six touchdown receptions.
Texas Tech (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) continues the season against Kansas State at Jones SBC Stadium in Lubbock on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
