LUBBOCK, Texas - Tech lost two of the three doubles matches and battled through the six single matches, playing against two nationally ranked players.
Junior Katja Kovacic and sophomore Lakann Wagley teamed up to defeat junior Jamie Marshall (UO) and junior Anna Lekinska (UO), 8-6. The doubles team of senior Daria Panova (UO) and sophomore Dominika Dieskova (UO) defeated junior Tara Browning and freshman Cigdem Duru, 8-4 and senior Ester Bak (UO) and senior Davina Mendiburu (UO) defeated Erin Hunter and freshman Janet Durham, 8-3.
In singles play, Browning was defeated by No. 31 Panova (UO), 6-2, 6-1, at position number one, while Duru lost to No. 34 Dieskova (UO), 3-6, 6-3, (10-6), in position number two. In position number three, Kovacic lost to Mendiburu (UO), 6-2, 6-3, and in position number four, Lekinska (UO) bested Wagley,7-5, 6-3. In a tough battle at position number five, sophomore Monica Hoz de Vila (UO) defeated Hunter, 7-5, 2-6, (10-6), while at the number six position Bak (UO) knocked off Durham, 7-5, 6-2.
The Lady Raiders will hit the courts again tomorrow against San Diego State at 3 p.m. They will travel to Houston next week to face Rice on Fri., Feb. 11 and Houston on Fri., Feb. 12.
