Red Raiders Host Baylor on Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders have their twelfth home game of the season and their ninth conference game on Wednesday evening as they face the Bears of Baylor University at the United Spirit Arena. The tip-off will be at 8:00 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPN-Regional. Bill Doleman will call the play-by-play. Paul Splittorff will provide the color analysis. UPN Lubbock will televise the Texas Tech/Baylor game at 8 PM. UPN Lubbock is available over-the-air on channel 22 in Lubbock and the surrounding area. UPN Lubbock is also available over-the-air in Hobbs, NM on channel 29. In Lubbock, you can watch UPN Lubbock on Cox Cable channel 6. The DISH Network now offers UPN Lubbock on its local tier. The game is available for purchase on ESPN-Full Court.
John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders, 14-5 for the season and 6-2 in conference play, are ranked in the Top 25 of the national polls for the first time this season. The AP Top 25 lists Texas Tech in 25th spot. The Coaches Poll finds the Raiders in the 23rd spot.
Texas Tech has won nine of their last eleven games. Their most recent win was on the road against 16th ranked Oklahoma on Saturday 88-81. The Raiders held a 38-29 margin at halftime. In the second half, the Raiders scored 50 points to Oklahoma's 52 points to earn a seven-point win. The victory over OU marked the first time the Raiders had downed a ranked opponent since they knocked off the Sooners in Lubbock on January 19 by twenty points (67-47).
Jarrius Jackson led all scorers with 32 points and was named the Big 12 Player of the Week for his efforts. Jay also had five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Devonne Giles scored 17 points. Ronald Ross added 14 points, five assists, and five steals.
Taj Gray led OU's scoring with 20 points as Lawrence McKenzie added 16 points. Drew Lavender scored 13 points as Terrell chipped in 12 points. The Texas Tech Red Raiders made 14-of-26 shots (53.8%) in the first half. They were 2-of-4 above the arc and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Texas Tech scored 50 points in the second half. The Raiders made 14-of-23 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 three-pointers. They made 21-of-25 (84.0%) free-throw attempts in the second half.
The Red Raiders have four players who are averaging in double-figures for the season. Ronald Ross leads the squad with 16.2 points per game. Jarrius Jackson follows with 15.4 points per game. Martin Zeno averages 13.4 points per game. Devonne Giles is next with 12.8 points per game. The Raiders are averaging 83.2 points per game for the season and are scoring 79.4 ppg in conference play. Their defense has allowed 68.1 ppg for the season and 73.6 ppg in conference games.
With 846 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,174 game with the game against Baylor. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads everyone with 879 career wins.
The Bears are 9-10 for the season. They completed their non-conference season with eight wins and three losses. Their non-conference losses were against Louisiana-Monroe, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, and at SMU. Their conference win was against Colorado (67-59) on January 19.
Overall, Texas Tech leads the series 69-39, which began on January 2, 1937. The Red Raiders hold a 37-12 margin in Lubbock and a 26-25 edge in Waco. Tech has won six of eight neutral site games. The Raiders have won the last three games.
On January 17, the Raiders downed the Bears 75-66 in Waco. Ronald Ross led all scorers with 24 points. Andre Emmett followed with 22 points. Robert Tomaszek scored 12 points as Jarrius Jackson added 11 points. The Raiders held a 38-30 halftime lead.
The teams met again on February 3 with the Raiders winning in Lubbock 83-63. The squads were knotted at halftime with 34 points. Andre paced the Raiders 25 points. Ronald Ross scored 22 points. Mikey Marshall added 11 points.
The Raiders continue conference play on Saturday, February 12, as they travel to Ames, Iowa to face the Iowa State Cyclones at 3 PM. The game will be televised on ESPN-Regional and will be shown on FOX34 in Lubbock.
