Men's Tennis Handles No. 32 Clemson, 5-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 23 Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated No. 32 Clemson, 5-2. The Red Raiders also defeated No. 46 Fresno State, 5-1 and No. 57 Purdue, 7-0 while in California this past weekend. Tech is now 17-0 on its spring season.
Texas Tech proved to be very strong in singles again today against Clemson. At number one, Radek Nijaki defeated Nathan Thompson, 6-4, 6-2 and in the number two slot, Bojan Szumanski beat Sander Koning, 6-4, 7-5. Jakob Paulsen fell at position three to Clement Reix, 6-3, 6-4. In fourth position, Esat Tanik came out on top against Ryan Young, 7-6, 6-4. At number five, Michael Innerebner beat Brett Twente, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 and in the last slot Adrian Prpic defeated Michael Gee, 6-3, 6-2. Prpic and Szumanski both remain undefeated in singles action.
The Red Raiders lost two of their doubles matches, but won at number three. At position three, Paulsen and Prpic teamed up to defeat Twente and Boling, 9-8. Thompson and Young beat Nijaki at number one, 8-5. Innerebner and Szumanski fell to Koning and Reix, 8-5.
"We had another poor performance in doubles, but our singles was very strong mentally and the most significant they have been all year," said head coach Tim Siegel. "I have a lot of respect for Clemson who has had a great season so far. I can not say enough about how our players played this weekend."
No. 32 Clemson just had a big win against University of Southern California and were 20-2 on its spring season.
The Red Raiders will open up their Big 12 season at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, beginning with Oklahoma State Sat., March 26, at 1 p.m. Tech will then host TCU Sun., March 27, at 1 p.m. and Oklahoma Wed., March 30, at 1:30 p.m.
