LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 12 Texas Tech men's tennis team falls to No. 11 Oklahoma State, 4-1. The match was moved indoors to The Falls in Lubbock, Texas, due to bad weather.
Tech won one of their singles matches against the Cowboys. At number one, Radek Nijaki battled until the end, defeating Mark Van Elden, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the second slot, Bojan Szumanski fell to Tomas Bohunicky, 6-3, 7-5, and in the number three position, Boris Kuharic defeated Jakob Paulsen, 6-3, 6-1. Esat Tanik fell to Daniel Byrnes at number four, 6-3, 6-4. The remaining singles matches were not played.
The Red Raiders fell in doubles at number two and three. In the second position, Bojan Szumanski and Michael Innerebner fell to Daniel Byrnes and Mark Van Elden, 8-6. Tomas Bohunicky and Artsen Burmistrau came out on top at number three against Jakob Paulsen and Adrian Prpic.
"We got beat by a better team," said head coach Tim Siegel. "OSU played very well. We did not play as well as we needed to in doubles. Our guys might have come out a little nervous being in front of a large home crowd. We just have to get ready for tomorrow to play against another good team."
The Red Raiders look forward to hitting the courts again tomorrow. The match against No. 39 Trinity Christian University is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas. Tech will be at home again Wednesday, March 30, to face No. 1 Baylor at 6 p.m.
