Baylor/Tapatio Springs Shootout

Lady Raiders Drive into Top Five

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team moved into the top five after shooting a 312 in the second round at the Baylor-Tapatio Spring Shootout in Boerne, Texas. Tech's Kim Kolb led the charge with a second day 78, and a two-round score of 154 to put the Red and Black in a tie for fifth overall.
Kolb sits in a tie for 17th, followed by freshman Valerie Tan (76-79) in a tie for 21st who carded a two-day score of 155. In a tie for 29th is sophomore Marla Troester who posted a first-round 80, followed by a 78 second round. Following the sophomore is junior Hazel Tan (84-77) boasting a score of 161 with senior Megan Hull (90-79) rounding out the last competing Lady Raiders with a 170 performance. Hazel Tan and Hull sit in a tie for 40th and 76th, respectively.
Competing as individuals for the Red and Black are junior Ashley Slavich (82-80-162, t43rd), freshman redshirt Deirdre Hatfield (84-83-167, t62nd) and senior Sheila Mendez (83-90-173, t85th).
Leading the team leaderboard is host school Baylor (295-291-586) in first, followed by Michigan State (301-300-601) in second. Rounding out the top five are SMU (314-296-610-third), Oklahoma (306-311-617-fourth) and Florida International (321-307-628) tied with Tech (316-312-628) in fifth.
The three-day event will continue tomorrow with 18 holes at the Tapatio Springs Resort. The 54-hole event will wrap up on Sat., March 25.
