TECH STEPS OUT OF BIG 12 PLAY FOR TUESDAY GAME AGAINST UTA
Texas Tech will try to snap a three-game losing skid on Tuesday as the Red Raiders will take on the Texas-Arlington Mavericks. Tech will be making its first appearance at the newly renovated Clay Gould Ballpark and first pitch on Tuesday afternoon is set for 3 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased by calling the UTA Athletics Ticket Office at (817) 272-2261. The game can be heard in Lubbock on KKAM-1340 or anywhere in the world via the College Sports Pass on www.texastech.com.
Texas Tech comes into the game in search of a much needed win before a weekend series at Missouri. The Red Raiders have dropped three straight games for the first time this season and face a key stretch of games this week. Tech dropped two games over the weekend at No. 4 Texas in a series that was shortened due to inclement weather on Saturday. The Red Raiders fell 7-3 in the opener on Thursday and then 8-7 on Friday. Saturday's finale was scoreless in the bottom of the first when heavy rains moved in and eventually forced the cancellation. Tech has now had two games rained out this season and will be making those games up most likely at Dan Law Field later this year.
The UTA Mavericks, on the other hand, come into Tuesday's game riding a season-high four game win streak. The Mavericks are fresh off a three-game sweep of a very talented Sam Houston State club and are 5-1 in Southland Conference play. Since falling to Tech 8-0 back on March 1, the Mavericks have gone 8-5 and that includes a 6-4 win over then ninth-ranked Texas A&M in College Station. UTA has played four extra-inning contests this season, including a 16-inning 4-2 win over Sam Houston State on Sunday in Huntsville.
Following Tuesday's game, Texas Tech continues its seven-game road trip as the Red Raiders will take on Missouri in a three-game series this weekend in Columbia. First pitch for that three game series is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday night at Taylor Stadium.
