Lady Raiders Head to Big 12 Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No.48 Texas Tech women's golf team heads to Austin, April 22-24, to compete at the Big 12 Championship. The University of Texas will, for the first time, host the event at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
The University of Texas Golf Club, a par 71, features 18 holes spanned across 7,154 yards of course. The 2005 Big 12 Championship format consists of a total of 54 holes with the entire course being played each of the three days.
Host Texas was the 2004 winner, with Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman taking the individual title. Overall, Oklahoma State leads the pack with four titles (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003), Texas with two (1997, 2004) and Texas A&M (1998) and Oklahoma (2000) each with one.
The Lady Raiders enter the competition after finishing seventh last year, Tech's best finish since finishing sixth in 2000.
Representing the Red and Black this weekend will be Tech's stroke-average leader senior Kim Kolb with a 76.08, followed by fellow senior Megan Hull carding a 77.42. Rounding out the competitors are freshman Valerie Tan (78.0), sophomore Marla Troester (78.41) and junior Hazel Tan (79.36).
Seniors Hull and Kolb are making their fourth appearance at the Championships in as many years. Hull's best finish came last year when she finished tied for 16th, while Kolb's best came in 2003 when she finished 22nd. Making her third appearance is Hazel Tan who garners a career-best tie for 36th-place finish at the Championships.
Tech will be in company with some of the nation's best women's programs this weekend. Leading the squads is No.8 Oklahoma State, No.14 Missouri, No.22 Texas, and No.29 Baylor. Rounding out the field are No.38 Texas A&M, No.48 Texas Tech, No.50 Oklahoma, No.57 Iowa State, No.58 Nebraska, No.62 Colorado, No.65 Kansas and No.79 Kansas State.
