Men's Tennis Gains Another Conference Win

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 10 Texas Tech men's tennis team swept No. 74 Nebraska, 7-0, this afternoon in Lincoln, Neb. The Red Raiders (22-2, 4-2 Big 12) will head to No. 61 Colorado on Sun., April 24.
Tech defeated Nebraska in all of the singles matches this afternoon. Radek Nijaki stood out at number one against Jerry Posch, 6-2, 6-3. In the second position, Bojan Szumanski defeated Adrian Szatmary, 7-6, 6-2 while Jakob Paulsen beat James Clow at number three, 7-6, 6-4. In fourth, Esat Tanik came out on top against Jose Rivera, 6-4, 7-6. Michael Innerebner won at number five against Joerg Barthel, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 while Joel Reckewey fell to Adrian Prpic, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
The Red Raiders proved strength in doubles actions. Nijaki and Szumanski defeated Posch and Reckewey at number one, 8-6, while Tanik and Prpic teamed up to defeat Rivera and Barthel, 8-3, in the second slot. At number three, Innerebner and Paulsen stood out against Szatmary and Clow, 8-6.
"This was the toughest 7-0 match we have played," said head coach Tim Siegel. "The match was a lot closer than the score indicated. We played in conditions that were tough, but we were able to pull it out. I am very proud of how we played especially considering the weather conditions."
Tech will face No. 61 Colorado on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Boulder, Colo. The Red Raiders will then head to Austin, Texas for the Big 12 Tournament, Thurs., April 28.
