Women's Golf Struggles in Second Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 48th-ranked Texas Tech women's golf team fell to sixth place today after shooting a 323 at the Big 12 Championships in Austin. Senior Kim Kolb remains Tech's front runner as she looks to post a career-best performance at the Championships after finishing tied for 12th after two rounds.
Kolb shot a second round 80 to fall eight spots from her first round tied for fourth-place finish. Senior Megan Hull (78-77-155), one of only two Lady Raiders to push forward in the standings after the second round, moved into the top 20 after shooting a second-round 77 to finish tied for 18th.
Rounding out the Red and Black competitors were sophomore Marla Troester (79-80-159) tied for 31st, freshman Valerie Tan (74-86-160) tied for 38th and junior Hazel Tan (80-87-167) tied for 167.
Leading the overall field is No.8 Oklahoma State (295-307-602) who is looking for its fifth title since the inception of the Big 12 Conference in 1997. No.22 Texas (297-306-603) stands just one stroke out to the lead, while No.14 Missouri (306-313-619) and No.29 Baylor (305-314-619) are tied for third. Rounding out the field are No.38 Texas A&M (310-316-626), No.48 Tech (305-323-628), No. 58 Nebraska (305-324-629), No. 62 Colorado (307-323-630), No. 57 Iowa State (317-314-631), No.79 Kansas State (320-314-634), No.50 Oklahoma (314-328-642) and No.65 Kansas (311-331-642).
The individual race solely led by Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman-Young who is pacing the pack at three-under-par, 141. Thurman (70-71-141) is the only golfer to enter the third round under par.
The third round of the 2005 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
