
Tech Men Take Home Big 12 Championship

Manhattan, Kan. - Texas Tech men's track captured its' first-ever Big 12 title in Manhattan, Kan. today. The men's squad recorded 149.5 points for the victory. The women's squad finished in third place with 95 points, a program high.
Jonathan Johnson won his fourth-consecutive Big 12 title in the 800M with a time of 1:44.86, the second-best mark in school history. Johnson also set a new Big 12 meet record, replacing his record of 1:47.12, set at the 2004 Outdoor Big 12 Championships.
Lubbock native Bryan Scott defended his Big 12 title in the 400M hurdles with a clocking of 49.86, the second-best time in school history and a personal-best. Terry Beard, the 2004 NJCAA title holder, earned a silver finish in the 400M hurdles, with a time of 50.64.
Tyree Gailes won his first Big 12 crown in the 200M with a time of 20.57, the second-best time in school history. Gailes also earned a silver finish in the finals of the 100M with a clocking of 10.38 and all-conference honors.
Marlon Odom captured his first Big 12 title in the 110M hurdles with a time of 13.76, the second-best mark in school history. Shawon Harris finished fifth in the event with a clocking of 13.99, a new personal best. Harris also finished in fourth place in the 400M hurdles with a time of 51.17.
Shereefa Lloyd was crowned champion in the 400M with a new school record time of 51.75. Lloyd replaced the old record of 52.22 set by teammate Licretia Sibley. Sibley placed fifth in the event with a clocking of 53.45 and all-conference honors.
Lloyd also finished in third place in the 200M with a clocking of 23.34. JaToya Moore finished in eighth in the event with a clocking of 24.11.
The Red Raider men earned 22 points in the 400M with a silver finish from Andrae Williams (45.90), a bronze finish from Johnny Jacob (46.19), a fourth-place finish from Michael Mathieu (46.24), and a sixth-place finish from Beard.
Althea Chambers finished in third in the 800M with a time of 2:05.30, a new school record. Chambers replaced the eight-year old record of 2:05.88.
The women's 4x100M relay team of Melissa Branch, Shereefa Lloyd, Louise Cox, and Moore clocked a 44.45, the second-best time in school history, good for a silver finish and all-conference honors.
The men's 4x100M relay team of Jacob, Gailes, Matt Stewart and Earvin Parker finished in third place with a time of 40.21 and also earned all-conference honors.
In the women's pole vault, Kelley Schulz and Dana Rosenbladt finished in seventh and eighth places, respectively, as they both cleared a height of 12'-5.5" and earned all-conference honors.
In the women's 3000M steeplechase, school record holder Stefanie Calhoun clocked a time of 10:35.27, good for a fourth-place finish while Katie Leonard finished in eighth place with a time of 10:53.60, the second-best mark of her career.
In the men's steeplechase, Haron Lagat finished in fourth place with a clocking of 8:53.74, a new personal best. Also finishing in the top eight was Benson Cheserek with a seventh-place finish and a time of 9:01.80.
In the finals of the women's 1500M run, Brionne Yosten ran a 4:22.84, the second-best mark of her career, and finished in third place.
The men's 4x400M relay finished in second place with a clocking of 3:04.23 and the women's 4x400M relay ran a time of 3:31.04, good for a third-place finish.
