Red Raider Track Qualifies 17 to Running Finals

Norman, Okla.- Texas Tech track and field has completed day one of the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Norman, Okla, on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The Red Raiders will be represented by 17 athletes in the finals of the running events on Saturday.
Tori Polk finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 20'-7.75" and earned all-region honors and her first bid to the National meet.
Kevin Chelimo finished fifth in the 5000M with a clocking of 14:08.03 and earned all-region honors, as well as a trip to Nationals.
Kelley Schulz earned a seventh-place finish and all-region honors in the pole vault with a clearance of 12'-6" but failed to earn a spot in the Nation meet. The school record holder, with a height of 13'-5.25", was a National qualifier in 2004.
Bridget Tidwell clocked a 16:45.23 in the 5000M and earned all-region honors with a sixth-place finish, narrowly missing an automatic trip to Nationals.
In the 110M hurdles, Marlon Odom won the preliminaries with a time of 13.71. Shawon Harris placed fourth in the first round with a personal best time of 13.96. Both will run in the finals of the event.
In the 400M hurdles, two-time Big 12 Champion Bryan Scott won the preliminaries with a clocking of 50.87. Shawon Harris ran a 52.03, Terry Beard posted a 52.26 and Derron Herah finished with a time of 52.75, but all failed to make the finals.
In the 400M dash, the Red Raiders qualified four for the finals. On the women's side, Shereefa Lloyd clocked a 53.26 and Licretia Sibley ran a time of 53.78. For the men, Andrae Williams finished second in the opening round with a time of 46.06 while Michael Mathieu earned a qualifying spot with a run of 46.89.
In the 100M prelims, Tyree Gailes qualified for the finals with a time of 10.61. Gailes also qualified for the finals of the 200M after a clocking of 20.98.
In the 200M prelims, JaToya Moore clocked a 23.59 to earn a spot in the finals.
In the 800M, Althea Chambers won her heat with a clocking of 2:06.76, the second-best mark of her career. Defending Midwest Regional Champion Jonathan Johnson won his heat and posted the top time of the preliminary with a clocking of 1:48.14.
The men's 4x100M relay of Johnny Jacob, Chris Adams, Matt Stewart and Earvin Parker, clocked 40.03 and earned a spot in the finals.
The women's 4x100M relay of Melissa Branch, Shereefa Lloyd, Louise Cox and JaToya Moore ran a 44.62 and will running in the finals tomorrow.
