Texas Tech secured two titles alone in the 3k steeplechase run
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Tech claimed four titles on day one of the 98th Texas Relays Thursday evening at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Dunbar, in only his second outdoor 800m race of the season, crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:49.26 for a new PB. He recorded a 400m split of 51.26 and never surrendered the lead, going sub-58 on his final lap.
Mather opened her season in the 3000m steeplechase in winning fashion as she clocked in a time of 10:28.32 – 11 seconds ahead of the next runner. About 15 mins later, Titus Kimaru secured the title in the event for the men with a time of 8:37.21 – No. 3 all-time in TT history.
Victor Kipkoech claimed the men's 5000m run with a time of 13:58.54, winning by just under one second – his first 5000m race of the season.
The 400m hurdlers started off the day for Tech as Vanessa Balde (57.53) and Lovina Ewusi (57.91), each secured a spot in tomorrow's final. For the men, Sean Dixon punched his ticket to tomorrow's final with a time of 51.09.
The only field event of the day for the Red Raiders was the men's javelin as freshman Isaac Woodward placed fourth throwing 61.55m (201-11).

·      Jenna Carter closed out the final event for Tech on day one in the 10,000m race, finishing 2nd with a time of 36:06.31
