Men's Tennis Earns NCAA Championship Berth

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team earned a bid into the 2005 NCAA Championship as the No. 14 seed and will host first and second rounds in Lubbock, May 14-15. This is the Red Raiders first appearance in the NCAA Championship since 1999.
Tech enters the NCAA Championship with a 23-3 record and is currently ranked 15th in the country in the latest ITA Division I men's tennis rankings.
Heading to Lubbock for first and second rounds will be Army, No. 45 TCU and No. 17 Wake Forest. The Red Raiders will take on Army, while TCU and Wake Forest will match up in first round action on Sat., May 14. The winners from those two matches will meet in the second round on Sun., May 15. The winner of the second round will advance to the finals of the NCAA Championship in College Station, Texas, May 21-30.
"We're so excited and looking forward to playing in the NCAA Tournament and especially in front of our fans next weekend," said head coach Tim Siegel, who was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year earlier this week. "One thing is for sure, our team will be ready to play. I'm looking forward to a great regional."
The Red Raiders now await the announcement of the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship. Tech sophomore Radek Nijaki is No. 20, while sophomore Bojan Szumanski is No. 45, both are looking for bids into the singles portion championship. Nijaki and Szumanski were both selected All-Big 12 in singles and Nijaki was chosen as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
