
Tech Loses Heartbreaker in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas - After being up 2-0, the Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped the final three games to fall to No. 24 Oklahoma at the United Spirit Arena. Tech appeared to be on the verge of upsetting the ranked Sooners, but Oklahoma proved to be too much as Tech lost in games of 30-21, 30-18, 25-30, 24-30, 8-15. The Red Raiders now move to 9-8 overall and drop to 2-6 in conference play.
During the first game, Tech started off slowly as they found themselves down 1-4. The Red Raiders then went on an 11-2 run before OU was forced to call a timeout. Tech continued to take advantage of poor hitting by the Sooners and had rallies of three or more points on four occasions. Tech hit .146 compared to Oklahoma's -.045 to win 30-21.
Texas Tech dominated in the second game, as the Red Raiders jumped out to a 15-5 lead before OU called a timeout. Tech was unscathed by the halt in play and went on to out-hit OU .314 to .026 on 14 kills and three errors. Tech took game two by a score of 30-18.
Oklahoma came out of the 10 minute break ready to put up a fight as game three featured eight ties and three lead changes. Tech took a timeout as they were down 16-18, but was unable to take advantage as the Sooners went on a 6-4 before Tech's second timeout. Oklahoma maintained a lead to win 30-25.
Game four and five belonged to the No. 24 Sooners as OU won by scores of 30-24 and 15-8, respectively. Oklahoma hit .302 and .360 in the two games, as Tech struggled with .190 and .120 hitting percentages.
Philister Sang led the Red Raiders with 26 kills and missed a double-double by one dig as she tallied nine. Freshman Brittany Hughes added 11 kills with three digs. Emily Ziegler led the assist effort with 45. Three Red Raiders notched double-digit figures in digs as Ziegler led with 19 to complete a double-double. Kiley Lyons added 11 digs while Amanda Hiller knocked down 10.
