LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball squad travels to College Station, Texas, in search of their first conference road win when they face Texas A&M on Wednesday. The last match for the Red Raiders was a 3-0 loss to the Missouri Tigers. The defeat moved Tech to 8-7 on the season, 1-5 in the Big 12.
Texas A&M will go into Wednesday's match with a similar record of 8-5, 1-4 Big 12. The Aggies earned their single conference victory against Kansas State on September 22. They held off a late rally by the Wildcats to win 3-2 in games of 30-28, 30-26, 20-30, 20-30, 15-10. The Aggies fell in their first Big 12 match of the season to Oklahoma. Other than Kansas State and Oklahoma, Tech and A&M share common Big 12 opponents. Both squads fell to each Missouri and Colorado. While the Red Raiders were swept by each, the Aggies were swept by the Buffs but took the Tigers to five, losing 3-2.
The other common opponent is Kansas, as the Red Raiders faced them in Lubbock and the Aggies travelled to Lawrence, Kan. Tech earned their first conference victory of the season against the Jayhawks in a 3-1 decision, 30-26, 30-25, 22-30, 30-25. Texas A&M lost another five-game match as they fell short to the Jayhawks in frames of 30-28, 26-30, 28-30, 31-29, 15-17.
Following the match-up against the Aggies, Tech will have another two-match homestand. On Wednesday, October 11, the Red Raiders will face Oklahoma. That Saturday, Iowa State will make a trip to Lubbock to face Tech.
