LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders and the Huskers will face-off for the second time this season on Wednesday at the United Spirit Arena. The match will take place at 7 p.m. as No. 1 Nebraska will travel to Lubbock, Texas, after defeating Tech 3-0 in Lincoln on September 23. The Red Raiders will enter the match with an 11-11 record and are 4-9 in conference play. The Huskers will bring an undefeated record with them as they are 20-0; 12-0 Big 12.
Texas Tech's most recent match was against the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan. After being down 2-1, the Red Raiders made a late rally to capture the road win 3-2. The victory marked Tech's second conference road win in the season, as the team picked up the first in College Station, Texas, against Texas A&M. Texas Tech won with scores of 27-30, 30-28, 22-30, 30-28, 15-9.
The Red Raiders hit .206 on the night with 72 kills and 30 errors on 204 attempts. Two Tech members notched double-doubles on the night. Philister Sang led with 27 kills on .284 hitting and 10 digs, while Kiley Lyons added 12 kills and 11 digs.
Nebraska's last victory was a sweep over the Kansas State Wildcats. The Huskers tallied .269 hitting with 49 kills and 17 errors on 119 attempts, out-hitting the Wildcats who posted .050 hitting (36 kills, 29 errors, 140 attempts). NU took the match with scores of 30-21, 30-24, 30-22. The win earned the Huskers their 20th victory of the season, making them the only team to sit undefeated for 2006.
Dani Busboom notched 23 digs on the night, while two other Huskers added double-digits. Jordan Larson led in kills with 16 on .231 hitting, and also tallied 10 digs. Sarah Pavan added 12 kills on .229 hitting and knocked down five block assists.
In the first match between Tech and Nebraska, the Huskers swept their way past the Red Raiders 3-0 in Lincoln, Neb. NU won by scores of 30-27, 30-17, 30-24 to then pick up their 11th victory, fourth in the Big 12. The Huskers outhit Tech .317 (54 kills, 16 errors, 120 attempts) to .104 (38 kills, 25 errors, 125 attempts).
Sang notched a double-double on the night with 13 kills and 10 digs, leading in each category. Amy Charlebois added eight kills with three errors on 21 total attempts to accumulate a .286 hitting percentage. Emily Ziegler and Holly Hicks split setting duties, with Ziegler tallying 21 and Hicks adding 12.
On Nebraska's side, Larson recorded 10 kills and 13 digs to mark a double-double. Pavan registered 19 kills with six errors on 37 attempts to hit .351 on the night. Busboom tallied 14 digs and Rachel Schwartz 12. Maggie Griffin led the assists effort with 43 of the team's 52.
Following Wednesday's 7 p.m. match against the Huskers, Tech will have a week off before facing Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. That match is schedule for Nov. 8th at 7 p.m. from the McCasland Field House.
