LUBBOCK, Texas - Three Red Raider volleyball team members were listed on the 2006 Academic All-Big 12 first team, as announced by the conference Tuesday. Senior Kiley Lyons, junior Emily Zielger and sophomore Holly Hicks were all named to the first team squad.
Lyons has been listed on the conference's academic team three times throughout her four-year Red Raider tenure. She earned second-team nomination in 2004 and first team in 2005. This year marks the second-consecutive year for Ziegler to be named to the first team. The honor is a first for sophomore Hicks.
The 2006 Academic All-Big 12 team consists of 50 student-athletes, with four of those nominated having a 4.0 grade point average. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league team consisted of 42 first team members combined with eight on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
