The Texas Tech Red Raiders host the Kansas State University Wildcats on Monday evening with the game beginning at 7:03 PM on the Texas Tech Television Network with coverage provided outside the Lubbock area.
Dave Shore will call the play-by-play. Mike Roberts will provide the game analysis. The satellite coordinates for the game are: Galaxy 11 Transponder K 15.
John Harris will provide the courtside action along with Andy Hipsher as analyst on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 AM / KQBR 99.5 FM).
This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams since the series began on December 6, 1955. Overall, Kansas State leads the series 10-8. Texas Tech leads the series (5-4) when playing in Lubbock and on neutral courts (1-0). Kansas State has a 6-2 margin in Manhattan.
Last season, the Raiders stopped the Wildcats in Manhattan (79-76) on January 12 when Curtis Marshall hit the winning shot (a three-pointer) from a Jay Jackson pass with two seconds left on the clock. KSU called two 30-second timeouts to set up a play to tie the game. Clent Stewart's three-point attempt missed its mark as the horn sounded.
The Red Raiders are 12-12 for the 2005-2006 season and 4-6 in Big 12 play after their most recent road loss at Colorado, 66-64.
The Buffaloes edged the Red Raiders when Jay Jackson's three-point attempt bounced off the rim at the end of the game. Jay led all scorers with 18 points. Martin Zeno scored 17 points and Darryl Dora added 13 points for Texas Tech.
Texas Tech has two players averaging double figures for the season with Jarrius Jackson averaging 19.2 points per game and Martin Zeno scoring 15.4 points per game. After twenty-four games, the Raiders are averaging 68.6 points per game while their opponents are scoring 68.2 points per game.
Kansas State is 13-8 for the season. The Wildcats were 9-2 during the non-conference portion of their season. KSU arrives in Lubbock with a 4-6 record in conference play. The Wildcats opened conference play with losses at Iowa State (72-70) and to Nebraska (57-42). They won their next three games: at Kansas (59-55), over Texas A&M (58-54), and over Missouri (79-64). The Wildcats then lost three in a row: at Colorado (79-75), at Baylor in overtime (72-70), and to Oklahoma State (63-61). KSU defeated Iowa State (66-63) and then lost their last game to Missouri (74-71) in Columbia on February 12.
The Red Raiders continue Big 12 Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Nebraska in a 3 PM game against the Cornhuskers on ESPN-Regional. Coach Bob Knight (Ohio State, 1962) enters his fifth season at the helm of the Raider program and has notched four consecutive 20+ wins in Lubbock. In 39 seasons of coaching, he has taken his teams to post-season play 36 times. Coach Knight is third among all coaches on the all-time career wins list with 866 victories. He is the youngest of the four coaches (Dean Smith-879, Adolph Rupp-876, Bob Knight-866, and Jim Phelan-830) and the only active coach to reach that remarkable plateau of 800 career victories.
