WICHITA, Kan. - The Red Raider softball team complete a doubleheader sweep of its first two games at the 2006 WSU Shocker Invitational by defeating tournament-host Wichita State by a score of 3-1 at Wilkins Stadium in the nightcap of Friday's action.
The win improves Texas Tech's overall record to 7-16 on the season, while the Shockers fall to 13-9.
After the first four innings of the contest went scoreless, the Red Raiders were finally able to break thought against WSU starter Margo Pruis in the top of the fifth. Pruis escaped further damage in the inning, working out of a bases loaded jam to send the game to the bottom of the fifth inning with Tech leading 1-0.
Moulin put the Red Raiders up 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning when she slammed the first home run of her Tech career high over the wall in center field.
The Red Raiders added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to open a 3-0 advantage. Wike led the inning off with a single, her fourth hit (4-for-5) in two games on the day, and was moved around the bases to score on a RBI single by pinch hitter Alex Watkins.
The Shockers attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring one run to cut the lead to 3-1, but Tech starter Erin Crawford was able to pitch through the situation to preserve the victory and improve her record this season to 4-5.
Texas Tech softball is back in action at the 2006 Shocker Invitational on Saturday when the team squares off against Missouri State and Wichita State.
