LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Texas Tech women's golf team opened play at the 2006 UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Monday and the team sits in a tie for seventh place after shooting a team score of 303 in the first round.

Redshirt sophomore Megan Dowdy was the Lady Raider best finisher in round one, firing a opening round 75 to end the day in a tie for 22nd place. A trio of Tech golfers (Ashley Slavich, Gloriana Soto and Ulrika Van Niekerk) opened the event with a score of 76 to head into Tuesday's second round with a total of 26.

Junior Marla Troester, one of Tech's stronger players all season long, struggled in the opening round with a score of 85.
