TECH VENTURES OUT OF THE STATE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON IN BIG 12 PLAY
Four weeks into the Big 12 Conference season, the Red Raiders finally leave the state of Texas as Tech will take on the Kansas Jayhawks in a three-game series this weekend in Lawrence. The series gets underway at 6 p.m. on Friday and continues with another 6 p.m. contest on Saturday. The final game between Tech and KU is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. All three games of Tech-Kansas series can be heard live on the Texas Tech Sports Network with Mark Finkner handling the play-by-play duties from Hoglund Ballpark. Tech fans across the globe can tune into Sirius Satellite Radio via Channel 158 on Saturday and Sunday to hear the Texas Tech Sports Network broadcast of the final two games of the series.
The Red Raiders (22-11; 4-4 Big 12) enter the weekend series with some mixed emotion after suffering a 9-4 setback on Tuesday night at home against New Mexico State. All three phases of the game failed the Red Raiders in the Tuesday loss to New Mexico State as Tech surrendered nine runs (five unearned), committed three errors and left nine runners on base. Tech, however, got back into the thick of things in the Big 12 Conference race over the weekend as the Red Raiders claimed a 2-1 series win over then 24th-ranked Baylor. Tech pounded out a pair of 14-4 and 14-1 wins over Baylor in the final two games of that series to jump into fourth place in the Big 12 standings with a 4-4 league record.
Kansas enters the series against Tech with a 4-5 Big 12 record after taking a weekend series against then Big 12 leader Missouri. The Jayhawks dropped the first game of the series and posted a come-from-behind win on Saturday and held on for 9-6 win on Sunday. The Jayhawks stand at 20-12 after a dropping a 4-0 decision against Wichita State on Wednesday night.
