Dowdy Qualifies for USGA Public Links

LUBBOCK, Texas - Megan Dowdy, a redshirt freshman golfer at Texas Tech, qualified for the 2006 USGA PubLinks Thursday after shooting a single-round 78 in a regional qualifier at Pecan Valley in San Antonio. This is the second-straight year Dowdy has qualified for the event, which will be held at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colo., June 20-25.
Dowdy led the Lady Raiders with a 76.9 stroke average during the 2005-06 season and posted two top 20 finishes. Her top finish was a seventh-place showing at the Rio Verde Invitational in Arizona, where she helped lead the team to a fourth-place tie. She also finished 11th at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., and posted season-low 71s in back-to-back rounds.
The Women's Amateur Public Links Championships showcases 144 golfers from around the country. Practice rounds are scheduled for June 18-19 with stroke play qualifying rounds slated June 20-21. Match play will begin June 22 and run through the duration of the event.
