Tech Sweeps Texas State to Move to 3-2

EDINBURG, Texas - Texas Tech defeated Texas State at the UTPA Tournament in Edinburg, Texas, 3-0. The Red Raiders swept the Bobcats with scores of 30-25, 30-27, 30-22. The three-game match marks the first sweep of the season for the Raiders.
In the first set, Tech went on a four-point run after a 3-3 tie. Texas State came back with six unanswered points to take the lead 9-7. With the score at 25-23, the Red Raiders took over to score seven straight and finish the game 30-25.
Tech jumped out to a 5-1 lead during game two. Texas State was never able to overcome, as the Bobcats did not lead during the game. Tech took the set 30-27.
After four ties in the third game, the Red and Black jumped ahead and never looked back. They scored six straight to end the game 30-22. Tech led by as much as eight during the final set.
Leading the Raiders was Laura Gottschalk who finished with 11 kills and six blocks. Philister Sang led in kills with 14. Emily Ziegler tallied 26 assists, while Holly Hicks added 18. Freshman libero Jenn Harrell had 17 digs during the match. Leading blocker Amy Charlebois added 5 blocks to her 28 from last week's tournament.
